Built for the moment the numbers get audited

Raising or renewing a credit facility

The lender wants a borrowing base, collateral certifications, monthly covenant reporting, and a field exam. The books were built for tax season, not for a bank reading them line by line.

We build the lender package, run the exam, and keep the facility clean every quarter after.

Revenue across five channels and two entities

Wine club, tasting room, ecommerce, wholesale, and events, each on its own platform, each recognized differently under ASC 606, none of it tying to the ledger without a spreadsheet nobody trusts.

We route every channel to the general ledger so revenue reconciles monthly and passes audit without adjustment.

A NetSuite project, or one that went wrong

Inventory valuation is distorting COGS, three-way match never worked, consolidation still lives in Excel, and the integrator has moved on.

We own the architecture, migration, and process maps, and leave templates your team runs without us.

Results, measured the way a lender measures them

From our anchor engagement as Controller for a two-entity, eight-figure consumer brand, and prior in-house Controller roles.

20/0
quarters reported, covenant breaches

Covenant reporting on a $5MM revolver and a $12MM real estate facility, across 4 field exams and 5 financial reviews with zero material findings.

30 15
business days to close

Month-end close cut in half across two legal entities through standardized consolidation, eliminations, and review-ready workpapers.

6/0
revenue streams, audit adjustments

ASC 606 across DTC club, tasting room, ecommerce, events, and wholesale, reconciled monthly through tag-driven routing across Shopify, Commerce7, and Tock.

$18MM
refinancing supported

A 10-year driver-based model in NetSuite Planning and Budgeting, with variance commentary and contribution margin analysis used for the refinancing and launch decisions.

6
NetSuite OneWorld implementations

All delivered on schedule for clients up to $100MM, including Monoprice, JVS SoCal, and Arch Amenities Group, integrating Tipalti, MineralTree, Celigo, Braintree, and Ramp.

$80MM
inventory, 50,000 SKUs

Standard costing held purchase price variance within 2%, and the inventory workstream of an M&A diligence audit closed with no restatement.

Four ways to engage

Fractional Controller

Monthly retainer

We run the accounting function end to end: month-end close, multi-entity consolidation, revenue recognition, lender and board reporting, and the policy framework that keeps you audit ready. Your bookkeeper reports to us.

  • Close in 15 business days
  • Covenant and borrowing base
  • Audit and exam point of contact
  • Monthly reporting package

Lender and audit readiness

Fixed-scope project

A focused engagement ahead of a financing, a first audit, or diligence. Every balance sheet account substantiated, anything never reconciled rebuilt, and the internal control documentation written that lenders and auditors ask for.

  • Balance sheet substantiation
  • US GAAP conversion
  • 13-week cash forecast
  • PBC package

NetSuite and finance systems

Implementation or rescue

Six complete NetSuite OneWorld and Planning and Budgeting implementations, plus rescues of ones that stalled. Architecture, data migration, UAT, and process mapping across accounting, purchasing, supply chain, and sales.

  • OneWorld multi-entity setup
  • Inventory and landed cost
  • AP and payments integrations
  • Ecommerce to GL routing

Accounting automation

Built against your APIs

AI-enabled automation written directly against Zoho Books, Ramp, Gusto, Shopify, Commerce7, and Tock. Journal entries generate themselves, payables are triaged before anyone opens them, and revenue reconciles without a spreadsheet.

  • Journal entry generation
  • AP triage and coding
  • Revenue reconciliation
  • Python, SQL, REST

The stack, wired end to end

Most controllers know an accounting system. Fewer can connect the commerce, payments, and spend platforms into it so the ledger reflects what actually happened. That connection is where clients were losing the most time.

About

Zen Financial Services is led by Kolin Brown, founder and principal.

Kolin has spent more than eight years owning the accounting function at manufacturing, CPG, and high-growth consumer companies: first in house as Controller at a cannabis manufacturer and a commercial lighting manufacturer, then as Inventory Accounting Manager at Lucky Brand, and since 2020 through Zen Financial Services.

The through line is that he has always been the person on the phone with the bank, the auditor, or the sales tax examiner. That shapes how the books get built: every balance has support, every revenue stream has a reconciliation, and every process has a template someone else can run.

He also writes code. Python, SQL, and API work automate the parts of accounting that should never have been manual, which is why clients get a Controller and a systems engineer in one engagement.
